A Better Way to Approach Admissions
by Leigh Moore

A verse I remember from my childhood often comes to mind when watching the college admissions cycle play out:  When in danger, when in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout.  As an advisor, I would add, Apply to all! Take the test again!  Let your friends tell you where to go to college!

There is a better way to search for college.

Most families do it backwards: students submit a long list of applications, then wait for results before seriously considering their own objectives. The outcome is predictable — students blindsided by decisions, parents blindsided by costs they didn't see coming. Both were avoidable.

Starting the search with clear, quantifiable objectives changes everything. With the right information, students can eliminate hundreds of schools that will never be the right fit, identify the ones worth visiting, and understand exactly why they deserve the trip.

The decision stops being reactive and starts being the a product of reason and student choice.

Existing college data websites overwhelm families with too much information and not enough context. Our data is designed differently — to spark inquiry, surface the attributes of fit that rarely get discussed, and help families ask harder, better questions. The goal is not a longer list. It's a smarter one.

Guide your student to make the college search tangible. Make it work for them.
