Life in the Transfer Era

Thanks to the largesse of a wonderful friend, Robert and I enjoyed Jack Nicholson--grade basketball tickets this afternoon at Rupp Arena in Lexington. As I watched the Commonwealth's storied basketball program avenge a recent loss to our alma mater, I studied the players closely. Formidable athletes all, their intensity was as palpable as their 3-point shots were accurate. And all I could think was, "These guys have gone to a lot of colleges."

Ofthe 32 young men representing the University of Kentucky and Vanderbilt squads, 16 have transferred at least once. In total those 16 have attended 23 colleges and universities. Use the interactive viz to see the details.

I don't have a point to make, unless it is simply contextualizing what appears to be an old-fashioned ballgame. And perhaps wondering how grad rates will possibly be tracked amidst this landscape.
