Your Data Just Got Better!

Quick note for our subscribers

All MCD tools, including your downloadable spreadsheet, have been updated to include the latest College Scorecard release (April 23). Relevant data includes:

  • 4-year graduation rate breakdowns

  • 10-year earnings (all majors combined)

  • Debt information by cohort

  • Default rates

  • Faculty metrics

Free Viz of the Month! Fall 2024 Admit Rates (so far)!

Thanks to a little AI and a lot of human verification, we are collecting 2024-2025 Common Data Set information much more quickly than we were able to last year. As such, look for your tools to contain that data during the summer, rather than early fall.

In the meantime, I've given everybody access to the 50-ish colleges and the calculated admit rates across cohorts within our Free Viz of the Month.

In other news

Ron Lieber's latest article in the New York Times is called, "Colleges Know How Much You're Willing to Pay. Here's How." The piece analyzes the relationship between private equity companies, the enrollment analytics firms purchased by those companies, and the financial aid packages received by aspiring students.

More broadly, Mr. Lieber's article is about the ever-changing landscape of college pricing. He spotlights packaging at the individual level. Moore College Data captures trends--the good, the bad, and the uncomfortable.

On such trend is the arms race waged by public universities to secure students, especially out-of-state students. Look at the totals given in institutional aid for Fall 2023.

Red bars=need-based institutional aid

Green bars=non-need/merit institutional aid

One more word about the NYT article: we appreciate Mr. Lieber's the shout-out to Brad! As an aside, Brad has transitioned out of the President/Managing Director role. Taking admin duties off his plate allows him more time to spend with our postsecondary clients. Apologies for not clarifying the change sooner; as you may have guessed, I've been holed up with spreadsheets.

Until next time,

Leigh
